SciPol Summary

This bill updates and reauthorizes the Integrated Coastal and Ocean Observation System Act of 2009 (33 U.S.C. 3601), including the use of unmanned maritime systems and high performance computing to monitor and analyze the Nation's water systems. Specifically, these reauthorizations include provisions directing the National Ocean Research Leadership Council (per the aforementioned Act) to continue to promote and pursue the use of emerging technologies, such as unmanned maritime systems, to collect data to be used for the research and development of technologies improving the Nation's water systems economic and environmental outcomes. Use of super computing is also supported to use collected data to provide models and analysis.
